Bearing fruit from the cupboard tree

A short time back one of the HomeFrontCo team was out and about in the neighbourhood taking a morning walk with his children revelling in the splendid early spring sunshine – a treat to the senses after a cold, grey winter. 

Also out walking that morning were a retired couple we shall call Mr J and Mrs J. The J’s, back from their winter hideaway in Spain, doffed the proverbial hats and exchanged a firm ‘mornin’ with our man and his kids. 

As they do sometimes, this led on to a ‘we haven’t seen you guys around here for a while’ and ‘what have you been up to’.

After learning all about the Spanish food, drink, and festive merriment the Iberian peninsula can offer, our man brings up the new and exciting HomeFrontCo he’s been working with. 

‘What’s that then?’ enquired Mrs J. As you do.

Well, HomeFrontCo is the place where we help people sell the things that are taking up space in the house, or stored in the loft or garage. The stuff that has been unused for a while or has no use around the home anymore for them.

Mr J chips in ‘is it antiques and that type of thing? I’ve got a couple of things in the garage collecting dust’.

‘Yeh, we have sold a few lovely antique pieces recently, a beautiful art-deco clock was my favourite.’

Mrs J listening on, asks ‘is it only antiques you’re looking for’?

‘Anything really, antiques are great with all the history and workmanship and all, but really we can take care of the oldest antiques right through to something that was bought yesterday from Marks & Sparks and today you feel it’s not needed’.

‘Ohhh my!’ I’ve got loads of things in the cupboards that I don’t know what to do with’. Mrs J exclaims. ‘You’ve gone and opened Pandora’s box now!

At the HomeFrontCo we are always ready to help, so our man asks if he can pop round their house and help you go through the items?’

‘Yes yes. That would be great! Let’s go now. Bring the children along too’.

Living nearby, in a lovely house the J’s built from scratch over 50 years, our man is led to a to the items Mr J has is in the garage whilst Mrs J rummaged about and came back 5 minutes later with a stunning mantelpiece clock, a crystal glass bowl and a Singer sewing machine!

After a few more minutes the J’s appeared again with a near perfect item of Brewerania from the 1970s and a pair of the most care for lounge curtains.

Over the course of the next few days, our man collected over 60 pieces of household items ranging from the 1900s through to an unwanted pair of shoes no more than 6 months old.

The HomeFrontCo team whistled through the selling of the items, which can take anything from a day to a few months. Contacting known buyers of rare furs, Antique auction houses and, of course, by using the technologies and latest software available today. 

All the way through the process of collecting, sorting, repairing (where needed) and selling, the HomeFrontCo team kept the J’s up to speed with the processes and sales. 

At the end of each working week, we prepared a statement and transferred the funds at our agreed rates to the J’s bank account. Which they, we have been told, are using to put away for next year’s winter ‘hibernation’ in the Caribbean! 

From their experience, the J’s have freed up space in their house, made some money for ‘savings’ and are often dropping us a call or message with a photo of something dug out of a corner – the latest item being…(i’m afraid this info is Top Secret)…keep your eyes peeled on our shop website and see if you can guess what it is! But be quick, it’ll be gone in a flash.
